TB Treatment

Active TB Treatment - Phase 2

Standard Phase 2 Antibiotics

  • 2 antibiotics (different dosage) plus a B6 vitamin

  • Rifampicin (RIF or RMP)

  • Isoniazid (INH)

Taken Monday, Wednesday, and Friday (DOT).

Usually 51 total doses. This is about 4 months if a person takes their pills when they are supposed to.

As mentioned before, in Phase 2 some people may have more doses, must still take pills every day, or take different antibiotics.

Example conversation with someone who’s starting the standard Phase 2 Active TB treatment:

Standard

  • So, most people find Phase 2 to be easier than Phase 1 but it is still just as important for your health that you take all your pills in Phase 2.

  • The doctor prescribed you with the standard Phase 2 treatment meaning you will take a total of 51 doses.

  • There are less pills to take each time and now you only have to come to the clinic 3 times a week, Monday, Wednesday and Friday. No more weekends!

  • If you come all the days, you will be finished in about 4 months. If you are missing some, it will take longer.
