Why is it important to get tested?
TB can develop into a serious disease if left untreated.
TB might not cause symptoms so a person might not know they have it.
Latent TB does not cause symptoms.
Active TB can be sneaky also and not cause symptoms.
Earlier detection and treatment of TB can mean:
Shorter treatment.
Less pills.
Less sickness or less intense sickness.
Less spread of TB to family, friends, and in the community.
What can someone do while they wait for test results?
It is good to remember that even though TB is a serious disease, it is generally a slow acting one. This means that time spent waiting for test results usually doesn’t impact the person’s recovery.
As the PHO, you can remind the person that coming to get tested is already a good step in taking care of their health.
