Key point to discuss with a parent/guardian

The benefits of finding and treating TB early outweigh the possible harms of taking treatment. If the parent/guardian has concerns, it is better to talk together to the doctor/nurse.

Treatment

The dose of the antibiotic will be adjusted based on the child’s weight.

• For small children, it can be helpful to crush up their pills and mix them with juice or yogurt.

  • If a parent/guardian is doing this at home, it is good to remind them that the antibiotics should be eaten soon after being crushed and mixed.
