TB Tests

Blood Test

Pictures & Pages/Related Info

What is it

The nurse will collect a sample of blood similarly to other blood tests a person might have had in the past.

Why do we do blood tests?

During treatment, it is used to make sure people are healthy (particularly the person’s liver) and not having side effects. Sometimes it is used to screen for Latent TB but this is not done too much in Nunavik right now.

Example conversation with someone who’s doing a blood test after starting treatment:

What/Why

  • Alright so it’s blood test day. We’re doing the blood test today to make sure everything is going well with your treatment and that there are no side effects of the medications

  • Have you done a blood test before? With the TB Team or on the clinic side?

  • For the blood test the nurse will use a needle to draw some blood. It is the same if you’ve ever gotten blood taken before. Usually, it is 1 or 2 small containers which isn’t enough to impact you or your daily activities.
